1.       How can the transportation system in your city be made more efficient (275 words) ?

• Firstly, Change city's Radial configuration of Urban Expansion to a linear model.

• In case such a linear model has already been identified as a part of Kolkata Metro Network plan, superimpose a blank Transparency sheet to create a New Surface Transportation Network (STN) plan based on such underlying linear model plan.

• Thereafter, build highly elevated OR Ground Level Arterial Structural Roads (ASRs) based on this new STN in phases that would eventually form the structural growth corridors and dictate the growth pattern in the city.

• Multiple lane system for above mentioned ASRs with the central lane having two restricted lanes dedicated to all kinds of Emergency Services, VVIP Movement & Express Lines of busses.

• Parallel to the Emergency Central lanes have two local roads running in opposite directions that allows local traffic to pass through the city with Exit points to Key locations within the City.

• Organize this Transportation system (STN) by formulating various complementary levels viz., introducing Zoning Laws, creating Feeder, Express & Inter-district Lines for busses, plying energy efficient City Circle Line mini-busses.

• Identify and develop New / Existing Nodal Transfer Hubs (NTH - points where more than one Surface / Subway / Waterway / Rail modes of Transport converge) which will enable passengers to carry out necessary Transfers within Integrated Transportation Network (ITN).

• Finally from the Fare perspective, integrate New STN with existing Kolkata Metro Subway Network, City Railway Stations and planned Kolkata Waterway Transport Network to form an Integrated Transportation Network (ITN) system so that passengers can pay one time fare (based on Zones), carry a Zonal Pass and travel throughout the system.
